KUALA LUMPUR: Former national squash player Low Wee Wern has been approached by the Philippines to coach their national team.

The Philippines hope that Wee Wern, 33, can help their players qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Philippine Squash Academy president Robert Bachmann said: "I've seen Wee Wern's plans and programmes in writing. I also know first-hand that she is more than capable and we would be lucky to have her as part of the national team.

"But we're still waiting for the Philippine Sports Commission's approval." Bachmann told the Daily Tribune of Philippines.

Former world No. 5 Wee Wern has won two Asian Games team gold and six PSA titles in her career.

The Penangite has been coaching on and off in Singapore and Japan for the past few years. Last month, she coached in Shanghai for 10 days.

Wee Wern said she will make a statement after she gets the job as the Philippines national chief coach.
