KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Electronic Sports Federation (MESF) acting president Afiq Fadhli Narawi said they are working on resolving the "conflict" with Malaysia Electronic Sports Governance Association (MEGA).

MESF will be having its Annual General Meeting (AGM)-cum-election, and has submitted its application to be an affiliate of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).

Afiq said there is no bad blood between MESF and MEGA, and he hopes for an amicable solution for the good of eSports in the country.

The rivalry between the two national eSports bodies has led to a spat between Sports Commissioner Suhardi Alias and Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria.

Afiq said MESF is now a member of the Global eSports Federation (GEF), International Electronic Sports Federation (IESF) and Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF).

"The MESF AGM will be held next month or January. We will have our committee meeting soon to finalise the dates. We will sub our application to OCM to be an affiliate soon," said Afiq who has been the acting president from August after president Ananth S. Nathan stepped down.

"We are already a member of eSports world bodies, GEF and IESF as well as the AESF. Once we are an OCM member, it will be easier for us to manage the sport in the country. We have prepared the related documents and we will submit them in December.

"We have amended the MESF constitution to be more open to the eSports community, and it was approved by the Sports Commissioner's Office (SCO) in October.

"MESF is open and we welcome MEGA to join us as an affiliate or associate member. Associate members cannot vote in the AGM. MEGA can be a part of the state eSports associations.

"We don't have any issues with MEGA, and I believe we are all professionals and want the best for eSports in Malaysia."

Malaysian eSports appear to be heading for a clash after MEGA applied to be registered under the SCO in February while MESF has already registered.

Both MESF and MEGA are not affiliated with OCM which had formed a special eSports task force to allow eSports athletes to compete in the Phnom Penh Sea Games and Hangzhou Asian Games this year.

The SCO asked MEGA to join MESF in a mediation meeting recently. However MEGA is not keen on the move.
