KUALA LUMPUR: Asian champion S. Sivasangari stunned Egypt's top seed Nour El Tayeb today to advance to the Singapore Open quarter-finals.
The world No. 29 Malaysian, who lost 3-1 to world No. 6 Nour in the Malaysia Squash Cup semi-finals in Seremban last week, battled for 53 minutes to win 11-6, 12-10, 8-11, 12-10 in the second round at Singapore Sports Hub.
It was Sivasangari's first win over Nour in five meetings.
Sivasangari will face veteran and eighth seed Sarah-Jane Perry of England tomorrow.
The 33-year-old Englishwoman subdued Egypt's Zeina Mickawy 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 13-11.
Sivasangari, 24, said it was her best ever game against Nour since her comeback after a road accident last year.
"The loss to Nour last week was fresh in my mind. Today what made the difference was that I played a more consistent match.
"I also played a more patient game today as the last time I tended to rush into the game and I made mistakes.
"Today I pushed her by playing long rallies and I believe that my fitness was also good," said Sivasangari.
