KUALA LUMPUR: The 2022 Asian Games Performance Review Workshop today (November 8) found that several structural reforms need to be carried out for there to be any consistency and improvement in the performance of the national contingent in future multi-sports Games.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who chaired the workshop which lasted for about eight hours, said all the feedback received will be scrutinised to ensure for a much better performance at next year's Paris Olympics.
She said that among the proposals and feedback received were for training programmes to begin earlier, full-time training to be held instead of part-time, facilities to be upgraded and for coaches salaries or allowances to be increased.
"We received a lot of feedback today, we will review all of them and make improvements like what was done for the Cambodia SEA Games," she told reporters at the end of the workshop here today (November 8).
The workshop was also attended by the contingent's chef de mission Datuk Chong Kim Fatt and representatives from all the sports, the National Sports Council (NSC), National Sports Institute (NSI) and Nippon Sports Science University (NSSU) of Japan, which has forged a collaboration with the NSC.
Hannah said that, at the workshop, representatives from sports that were contested in Hangzhou who had submitted their reports earlier, were asked to answer several questions and give their feedback.
"After this, we will sit down with the NSU to listen to their views. Today, they (NSSU representatives) listened and asked some questions. After this, we will sit with them to look at things specifically," she said.
At the Hangzhou Asian Games in China that was held from September 23 to October 8, Malaysia won six golds, eight silvers and 18 bronzes to finish 14th in the medal standings. – Bernama
