SEREMBAN: Terengganu runner Izzatul Musfirah Ahmad Kamal Azira was on fire at the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Athletics Championships in Seremban today.

She won two gold and broke two meet records.

The SMK Sultan Ahmad student bagged a total of four gold over the past three days.

Izzatul clocked 27.43s to break the 200m hurdles record in the girls' Under-15 final in the morning, erasing the mark of 27.56 set by Terengganu's Azreen Nabila Alias in 2015.

Two hours later, she shattered the 200m meet record with 24.94 in the heats (erasing the 20-year mark of 25.09 set by Perak's Fauziah Abdul Razak). In the afternoon, Izzatul cracked the 200m record again with 24.66 in the final.

On Sunday, she won the 100m gold in 12.33 and on Monday, she anchored the 4x100m quartet of Nur Akmal Batrisyia Anzari, Nur Aina Syakira Rafizan and Wan Nur Afrina Wan Osman to the gold (50.02).

Izzatul, who took up athletics two years ago, said she never expected to win four gold and set two meet records in her second MSSM championships.

"Last year, I competed only in the 4x100m and did not win any medal. All my hard work in training is now paying off."

Meanwhile, the boys' Under-15 javelin event was still held in the afternoon despite lightning and thunderstorm at the Kompleks Sukan Tunku Najihah at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia today. The organisers should have thought about the safety of athletes and postponed the event to tomorrow.
