KUALA LUMPUR: Sprinter Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam has qualified for he World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, in August.
The Sabahan clocked a personal best of 21.33s - which beat the qualifyng time of 21.35 for the World Junior - in the 200m semi-finals of the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Dubai yesterday. He qualified for today's final.
Pengiran said it is a dream come true to do a PB and qualify for his first World Junior Championships.
"I'm all geared up for the final and it will be great if I can retain the bronze medal that I won in the Asian Junior meet in South Korea last year."
Sayyid Amin Roslan clocked 21.89 to finish fifth in the semi-finals.
In the 100m final, Hanssen Yap ran 10.68 to finish eighth. Khalil Helmi finished eighth in the 400m final (48.45). Aiman Najmi Anuar finished fifth in the 110m hurdles semi-finals with 14.47.
