HANGZHOU: Not only his fans, but veteran hammer thrower Jackie Wong was also unhappy with himself at the Hangzhou Asian Games today.

Jackie was not sure what exactly went wrong. He was desperate for a good mark but two of his throws at the Hangzhou Olympic Stadium were disallowed. And in the final attempt, he could manage only 62.79m, which was far off his national record of 68.22m.

His goal today was to clear 66m, but that never happened. He ended up 11th out of 13 athletes.

The 31-year-old Sarawakian has struggled to find his form since he was accidentally hit in the head by a hammer at the end of 2021.

Previously, Jackie was able to throw around 69-70m, but the hammer mishap had somehow affected the ability of the 2022 Sea Games champion.

Jackie, who had broken the national record 13 times in competitions since 2013, said he may have to take a break from competitions to clear his mind.

"Of course I know that my throw (yesterday) was bad. Not only did those at the stadium and my fans back home noticed it, I also felt it.

"I'm not satisfied with my performance. Maybe I need a break for a few months after a hectic year and think about what to do next," he added.
