KUALA LUMPUR: Aira Azman showed no signs of fatigue as she bounced back superbly to lead Malaysia to a 3-0 win over New Zealand at squash's World Junior Team Championships today in Melbourne.

The 18-year-old had on Sunday fallen short in the individual championship final, losing to Egypt's defending champion Amina Orfi.

But the Kedahan proved to have the mental fortitude of a seasoned professional as she quickly put that disappointment behind her to help Malaysia to a flying start in Group B.

It was, however, not just Aira as her teammates also stepped up well together.

In a 2-3-1 order of play, K. Sehveetrraa opened account by beating Sophie Hodges 11-6, 11-9, 11-3.

U. Thanussa then sealed victory by downing Anne Leakey 11-8, 11-4, 11-1.

Team leader Aira rounded off a perfect start as she thumped Ella Lash 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 in the first singles tie.

''I had a great week in the individual competition, but I was still a little disappointed," admitted Aira.

"But I feel good for the team event, and I have the responsibility to perform well with my team.

"It's still going to be tough as Egypt will always be the ones to beat while USA and Hong Kong will also be strong challengers.

"But the chemistry and team spirit is good, and all of us are honest with each other, and we'll be looking to support each other," added Aira.

Malaysia face Australia tomorrow, and a win will secure their place as group winners.
