KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian netball is looking forward to better days with the National Netball Development Programme (NNDP).

Malaysian Netball Association (MNA) president Alwiyah Talib said the National Sports Council (NSC) had given the green light on Dec 8 for the NNDP to start.

She said the NNDP, with its comprehensive national development programme, is the boost that the sport needed to reach the next level.

"We are happy to be allowed to have our development programme similar to football, hockey, rugby, and cycling. We see this programme as a recognition for netball in this country," said Alwiyah.

"We have advertised for key positions in NNDP. Once we get the personnel on board, we can move further."

The national netball team won the gold at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur and 2019 Manila Sea Games.

In the Asian Championships in 2018 and 2022, Malaysia finished third behind Sri Lanka and Singapore.
