KUALA LUMPUR: Queenie Ting shattered her own national women's discus record with a throw of 52.77m en route to the gold in the Higher Learning Institution (IPT) Grand final at the National Sports Council (NSC) Training Track in Bukit Jalil today.

The 25-year-old from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) erased her previous mark of 52.36m set at the Hanoi Sea Games in May for the silver.

Nur Atiqah Sufiah Hanizam of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) bagged silver with a

42.80m effort, followed by UPM's Nani Syahirah Maryata (37.49m).

Queenie is delighted to break the record for the second time in seven months.

"It feels nice to end my last competition this year with a gold and also a national record.

"I have qualified for next year's Phnom Penh Sea Games in Cambodia, and I hope to go one better by winning gold.

"But my main aim next year is to qualify for my first Asian Games in Hangzhou. I have to throw more than 55 metres to qualify under the A category," said Queenie, who won gold in all three IPT circuits this year.

In the Kuala Lumpur circuit in March, she managed 46.98m, and in the second circuit in Tanjong Malim in August, Queenie threw 51.32m.
