BANDAR SUNWAY: Rafiq Ismail and Sharon Koh were crowned men and women’s national champions at Sunway Mega Lanes on Saturday.
Rafiq, a member of the World Youth Championships team, defeated teammate Timmy Tan 208-179 in the final match of the stepladder finals to earn RM7,000 for his achievement.
“It is my second national title after 2015 and a huge honour to win it again. I was only the 13th qualifier for the Masters, so I did not expect anything today. The win is a huge boost ahead of the world youth and the Asian Games,” said Rafiq.
Sharon, a left-handed bowler, who won the national title in 2006, 2008 and 2015, defeated Podium Programm bowler Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi 10 pins to nine in the one roll off round. They were tied at 188-188 (in the final game) and 40-40 (two bonus frames).
“I am happy... it is my first title since the 2016 ABF Tour leg in Thailand,” said Sharon, who earned RM3,000 for her efforts.
