KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's team continued to assert their status as title favourites by notching their third win in as many games at the Hockey Series Open in Singapore today.

As expected, the squad was hardly tested as they ran out 8-1 winners against Kazakhstan at the Sengkang Sports Club.

Hanis Nadia Onn was the standout player for Malaysia, scoring in the seventh, ninth and 49th minutes while strikes from Siti Noor Amarina Ruhani (30th), Nuraslinda Said (39th), Nuraini Rashid (40th), Nur Maizatulhanim Syafi Sheik Fuad (46th) and Surizan Awang (58th) completed the rout.

Kazakhstan's solitary goal was netted by Vera Domashneva in the 30th minute.

The national team had opened their campaign with an 18-0 thumping of Indonesia on Saturday followed by a 10-0 drubbing of Hong Kong a day later.

The squad will face Thailand tomorrow followed by hosts Singapore on Friday in the last of their league matches before the competition moves into the classification round.
