KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal has reiterated that he will quit as president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) if the men’s national team fail to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Subahan, who has been president since 2015, however, believes the team can make the Olympic cut as the confederation have been supporting the them in all aspects.

“The Olympic qualifier is like a do-or-die mission. If the national team do not qualify for the Olympics then I will willingly resign.”

“I say this because we are confident Malaysia can qualify for the Olympics,” he said.

Subahan said in any sport, the management and coaches will do their very best to help their athletes fulfil their target.

“But it all comes down to the players. The Podium Program has given us support in preparing the team for the Indonesia Asian Games (in August), which is an Olympic qualifier.”

“So, logically, there is no reason why we cannot qualify for the Olympics,” he said.

The other Olympic qualifying tournament is the Hockey World Series.
