KUALA LUMPUR: Podium Programme director Tim Newenham has set a top-10 target for the national contingent competing in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on April 4-15.
Newenham said it is an achievable goal, considering the international exposure and complete facilities provided to the national athletes.
"Coming into 2018 we have another challenge to face which is the Commonwealth Games and our goal is to finish among the top-10," said Newenham, when met at the 2018 Anti-Doping seminar at the National Sports Institute (ISN) today.
"Our athletes are prepared and have been given international exposure. We, however, will not be naming the athletes who are expected to win gold medals as we do not want to pressure them.
"It is hard to gauge how strong the other nations will be but we will remain with our top-10 goal as this is a tougher competition than the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games last year."
Malaysia finished 12th from 71 nations at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games with a six gold, seven silver and six bronze haul. England emerged champions on 58-59-57.
