LANGKAWI: Armed Forces Team Uranus continued to close down the gap with leaders THA72 at the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) today.
Led by Salleh Ahmad, Uranus won race four while THA72, who are also the defending champions, settled for second.
Uranus now trail THA72 by only two points, as the race enters the half-way mark.
THA72 skipper Tom Whitecraft said Race 4, which saw the yachts sailing around the island, was more suited to the local teams.
"We did not face any technical difficulties," said Whitecraft.
"It was a tough race, we started well but there was a point where there was no wind.
"This opened up the race for the teams behind. Armed Forces did well to take their chances.
"Later, the wind picked up and we had expected to be in front again but it was not to be. They (Uranus) were just the better team today.
"As I have said yesterday, local knowledge makes a lot of difference."
THA72 remain in the lead with five points while Uranus are second on seven. Forces' second team Zuhal are third on 14 points while 2016 winners Alive are last with 15 points.
