KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Hockey Association-MSNJ are just one match away from winning their first ever Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) Division One league title.
The Johor team and Perak's Anderson Thunderbolt are both tied with 18 points from eight matches, but the former have better goal difference.
The Johor side scored 25 goals and conceded nine while Anderson scored 25 and conceded 13.
The Johor team will face Penang Hockey team at Bertam Hockey Stadium tomorrow while Anderson meet Petaling Jaya City Council Hockey Academy at Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh.
Johor team manager Hashim Yusof said they want to create history by winning their first ever silverware in the competition.
"We have been playing in the league for the past 10 years and this is the first time we top Division One by staying unbeaten with five wins and three draws.
"Although Penang are in seventh spot among 10 teams in the league with just two wins, we cannot underestimate them when playing in their backyard.
"The Division One league title's prize money is RM15,000, which will be given to the 22 players in the team if we win."
Johor will bank on Sabahan Andywalfian Jeffrynus, who played in the Junior World Cup last December, to deliver goals against Penang. He has converted seven penalty corners and is currently joint top scorer with two other players in the league.
National coach Sarjit Singh's son, Nischal Singh, plays for the Johor team in the MJHL, and he has scored two goals.
