KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional took a step closer to qualify for the TNB Cup final when they defeated Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) 3-1 in the semi-final first leg at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

Tenaga went on the offensive, and forward Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal scored in the 10th and 13th minutes, taking his tally to 30 goals.

However, UiTM narrowed the deficit off a penalty corner converted by Zul Pidaus Mizun in the 49th minute. South Korean Jang Jong Hyun made it 3-1 for Tenaga off a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute.

Meanwhile, defending champions Terengganu defeated Maybank 3-0 in the other semi-final first leg.

Captain Fitri Saari gave Terengganu the lead in the 19th minute.

Noor Firdaus Rosdi (47th) and Akhimullah Anuar Esook (48th) delivered the other goals.
