KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia were outclassed 5-2 by the Netherlands in the final of the men's Hockey 5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman yesterday.

Wallace Tan's men failed to capitalise on their chances while the Dutch made the most of theirs.

It was double delight for the Dutch who won the women's title last week by routing India 7-2 in the final.

The Netherlands grabbed the lead in the very first minute through Yannick van der Drift but Malaysia equalised a minute later through skipper Akhimullah Anuar Esook. It was his 11th goal in six matches. Akhimullah was also named the Best Player of the tournament.

Netherlands scored again through Pepijn Reyenga (sixth) and Drift (13th).

Just a minute after the breather, Malaysia narrowed the deficit with a goal through Firdaus Omar.

But the Dutch showed why they are the masters in Hockey 5s by plundering two more goals through Sander de Wijn (26th) and Jamie van Aart (28th).
