KUALA LUMPUR: National women's players have been left without a team in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) after Terengganu HA decided not to field a side this season.

And this happened after three days of training for the Women's MHL which begins on Feb 1.

Terengganu HA women's coach Harun Al-Rashid Samri said the management decided to offload the six national players because they were short on budget.

"Äfter three days of training I was told to disband the team as the budget was not enough to field both the men's and women's teams for the MHL this year. So I have been calling other teams to offer them my players but there have been no takers so far," said Harun.

"The amazing part is that Terengganu HA will field their men's side with two imports from South Korea this season."

Terengganu HA ended up fourth in the six-team league last season, but finished third in the TNB Cup when they held Young Tigers 0-0 and won 4-2 in the shootout.

The men's squad emerged Double champions when they finished tops in the eight-team league and then edged Tenaga Nasional 2-1 in the Tenaga Cup.
