KUALA LUMPUR: Though Malaysia failed to qualify for the pre-World Cup third round, FAM will stick to national chief coach Kim Pan Gon.

FAM deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said today the national body has held no specific discussion on Pan Gon's fate.

Under Pan Gon, Malaysia finished third in Group D behind Oman and Kyrgyzstan in the second round of the World Cup qualifiers.

He said the South Korean coach still has a contract with FAM until next year.

"For now, there are no other discussions with the national team committee, and we will honour his contract until the end of next year.

"This means Pan Gon will lead the national team for various competitions, including the 2027 Asian Cup third round qualifiers and the 2024 Asean Championship, should FAM opt to send the senior team," said Yusoff.

Pan Gon is also set to steer Harimau Malaya for the Merdeka Tournament in September and international friendlies in October.
