KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor FC could be docked more points for their refusal to play in the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).
Selangor FC board member Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said: "My hope is that, if possible, any punishment should not be too burdensome for the club. But it depends on the relevant authorities, as this is under the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) jurisdiction.
"If possible, let's not escalate the situation. Let's calm things down so that we can move forward. We leave this behind so we can look ahead."
He also denied that the withdrawal was due to other injuries in the team.
Last Sunday, Faisal Halim was seriously injured from an acid attack at a shopping centre in Kota Damansara.
This led to Selangor's decision to withdraw from the Charity Shield match against JDT.
MFL, in a statement on Thursday, said the Red Giants' decision was communicated in an official letter, thus granting the Southern Tigers a 'walkover' with a 3-0 scoreline.
JDT received three points as the Charity Shield is part of the Super League.
The statement also noted that its board of directors would decide whether to take further action.
Selangor wrote to MFL requesting to postpone the match following Faisal's case on Tuesday.
However, MFL rejected Selangor's request two days later after receiving safety assurances from the police.
Selangor then announced their decision to withdraw, which received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
