KUALA LUMPUR: Once bitten, twice shy.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) will not compromise on field quality when selecting a venue for Harimau Malaya's World Cup qualifier against Taiwan on June 11.

The national body has yet to decide on a venue for the match.

After learning from past experiences, FAM vice-president Firdaus Mohamed said: "We only want the best pitch for the national team.

"We will not select a venue with subpar pitch conditions. The players are our priority, and we do not want them to suffer from injuries.

"If the National Stadium is unusable, we may consider the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Terengganu or the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SSI) in Johor Baru."

The pitch contractors had raced against time to prepare the field before Malaysia's World Cup qualifier against Oman on March 26, which Harimau Malaya lost 2-0.

Due to the subpar pitch, defender Azam Azmi Murad suffered a leg injury.

On Saturday, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh issued a temporary ban on setting up concert structures on the pitch at the National Stadium ahead of Harimau Malaya's match against Taiwan.
