KUALA LUMPUR: Newly appointed Selangor head coach Nidzam Jamil admits he needs an extra set of eyes and ears to help him prepare the team for their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League 2 (ACL 2) campaign this season.

Nidzam, who was named the new head coach on Saturday, said Selangor were identifying candidates to fill the role.

The 43-year-old does not deny the possibility of appointing two assistants, the same concept adopted by former coach Tan Cheng Hoe.

Last season, Cheng Hoe was assisted by Nidzam and his former Kedah assistant, Ramon Marcote.

"We could add to our coaching roster because we have a big competition (ACL 2) this season and will need extra eyes to observe the players progress, but we're still discussing with management," Nidzam said.

Nidzam, who admits that he lacks AFC-level competition experience, is aware of the pressure that comes with coaching an iconic team, such as Selangor, but is up for the challenge.

"The players, fans and observers have their own perceptions, but ultimately it all comes down to the results," he added.

"I was a ball picker with Selangor about 20 years ago, that (job) also came with pressure. If I dropped the ball, there would be comments. At Selangor, that is to be expected.

"I don't think pressure is bad."

The Kajang-born played in defence for Selangor from 1999-2004 before joining PKNS, Negri Sembilan and Proton. He has been part of Selangor's coaching staff since late 2021.
