KUALA LUMPUR: The national Under-23 football team are working on the finer details as they prepare for the Asian Cup in Doha next year (April 15-May 3).

Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili, 20, said coach Juan Torres Garrido had them work on smoothing out their transition play.

"For this camp, Garrido is (having us) moving the ball fast. This is to reduce holding (onto) the ball," said Ubaidullah.

"We are working on more simple play, passing the ball more to open up the game.

"If we have space, then we move. At the same time it's just about changing positions to make it easier for us to play."

The Terengganu defender, who is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, stressed the importance of being versatile.

"I am comfortable as a centreback because its my dominant position but as a player, we can't just pick one position," said Ubaidullah.

"We need to be versatile to get a chance to play, especially in the senior team. If you see a vacant position, just go for it."

The U-23 squad have been training together in a nine-day camp at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras which ends tomorrow.

The Asian Cup will serve as the 2024 Olympic qualifiers where the top three teams will earn an automatic ticket to Paris, and the fourth placed team will have to play in an inter-confederation playoff.
