Colombian Romel Morales came to Kuala Lumpur early this year to join them as a midfielder. He ended up as their striker and an important one too.
Morales was asked to do the striker's job after KL City's frontline was hit by injuries.
American forward Kyrian Nwabueze is out for the rest of the season while winger Hadin Azman is yet to recover from a torn meniscus.
That left only veterans Safee Sali and Indra Putra Mahayuddin to carry on at the frontline.
Morales moved in and turned out to be lethal.
The 24-year-old admitted that the change of role was challenging but he was glad that he adapted well.
And the City Boys will be banking on the South American for goals against Sarawak in a Malaysia Cup group match at KLFA Stadium today.
"In all these years playing in Malaysia, I have never played in this position (forward) before.
"With the coach (Bojan Hodak) and the team's help, I am doing okay," said Morales, who previously played for Melaka United.
This season, Morales scored five goals in 22 games for KL in the Super League.
In the Malaysia Cup, which began on Sept 26, Morales had notched three goals for KL City.
His most important goal came against Penang on Sept 29, where he saved KL City with his equaliser in injury time (1-1).
Sarawak will find the KLFA Stadium an imposing place, as the City Boys have been unbeaten there in their last 12 matches.
In their last meeting, KL City defeated Sarawak 2-1 in the Premier League in March.
"When we play at home, we always feel the need to get the three points. I think this makes us stronger. I think that's why the other teams haven't been able to take that (points) away from us," said Morales.
"We know Sarawak are a good team and we know they had a great Premier League season, but we're confident of doing a good job."
KL City are second in Group A with one win and one draw. Sarawak lead with two wins while Penang and Sri Pahang are third and fourth respectively.
