KUALA LUMPUR: It was a night to remember for Perak fans as their state team produced a brilliant performance in the 3-0 win over Kuala Lumpur in a Super League match held for the first time this season in Ipoh on Sunday.

The Perak Stadium was closed for renovations for the upcoming Malaysia Games and it was only reopened recently.

Brazilians Leandro dos Santos, Gilmar Filho and Wander Luiz were the toast with a goal each to help Perak move to third spot in the standings with 13 points.

The inspiring win over KL could turn things around for Perak in their quest to challenge for honours this year.

“My players were fantastic throughout the match. They played to instructions and dominated,” said Perak coach Mehmet Durakovic on Sunday.

“It was nice to be playing at home and scoring some beautiful goals.”

“It is good to be third but we cannot be contented as it is still a long way to go.

“I am happy with the players’ commitment and attitude. I like what I saw yesterday (Sunday) and I hope they can continue this form.”

Perak last became league champions in 2003. Their best finish since then was runners-up in the 2006-07 season.

Although, Perak are performing well this year, Durakovic’s side need to be consistent to challenge Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) who are gunning for their fifth straight league title this season.

The Australian believes that he has the right players to attain glory.

“I am very happy with my players’ performances. Sometimes you have bad games but overall I am happy with the squad,” he added.

Perak will travel to Hang Jebat Stadium to face Melaka on Wednesday.
