KUALA LUMPUR: The Asian Championships (BAC) in Ningbo, China, turned out to be a poor outing for several Malaysian shuttlers, including top women's doubles duo Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah.

On Wednesday, the former French Open champions failed to clear the first round, losing 19-21, 21-13, 21-16 to Japan's Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara.

The Japanese pair will play Taiwan's Chang Chi Hui-Yang Ching Tun next.

Pearly-Thinaah's exit also meant that Malaysia's interest in the women's doubles is over, after independent pair Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien crashed out earlier after going down 21-11, 21-10 to South Korea's Jeong Na Eun-Kim Hye Jeong.

In the women's singles, Malaysia's sole representatives Goh Jin Wei fought gallantly but lost 18-21, 21-14, 21-19 to former world champion P. V. Sindhu of India.

Sindhu will play China's sixth seed Han Yue for a place in the quarter-finals.

Malaysia's interest in the mixed doubles also came to an end after Yap Roy King-Valeree Siow, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing all lost their respective first round matches.

Roy King-Valeree were beaten 21-8, 21-15 by Thai former world champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai while Kian Meng-Pei Jing were sent packing by Indonesia's Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.

Soon Huat-Shevon, who won the Swiss Open last month, suffered a 21-15, 21-14 defeat to China's fifth seeds Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin.
