KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian women's team are out of the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC).

In the quarter-finals today, Malaysia lost 3-0 to defending champions Indonesia at the Setia City Convention Centre.

In the first singles match, world No. 57 K. Letshanaa gave a good account of herself but it was not enough to upset world No. 33 Putri Kusuma Wardani, who slogged hard before winning 21-12, 18-21, 21-13.

Malaysia's top women's doubles duo Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah were a huge letdown.

The former French Open champions, who started as favourites, failed to inspire their teammates as they went down in three games 21-14, 18-21, 21-15 to world No. 30 Lanny Tria Mayasari-Ribka Sugiarto.

Indonesia completed the rout through their second singles player Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, who had to dig deep before ousting Wong Ling Ching 14-21, 21-15, 21-16.

Indonesia will face the winner of the quarter-finals between Taiwan and Thailand next.

At the previous edition, the Malaysian women's team reached the semi-finals and qualified on merit for the Uber Cup Finals.

This year, the team will have to wajt and see if they can sneak in through the back door for this year's Uber Cup Finals, given their overall world team ranking points.
