KUALA LUMPUR: Fresh off last week's victory at the Syed Modi International, men's pair Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri picked up where they left off to cruise into the second round of the Guwahati Masters in India on Wednesday.

Hon Jian-Haikal, who rose by 24 rungs to No. 69 in the world rankings, brushed aside India's Deep Rambhiya-Akshan Shetty 21-4, 21-16.

Hon Jian will also march further in the mixed doubles after teaming up with Go Pei Kee to outplay Manjit Singh-Anagha Aravinda 21-7, 21-13.

Also through in men's doubles were professional pairs Boon Xin Yuan-Goh V Shem and Lwi Sheng Hao-Jimmy Wong.

In the men's singles, revenge is certainly sweet for Cheam June Wei as he defeated Chi Yu Jen-of Taiwan 21-19, 7-21, 21-13 to check into the last 16. June Wei had lost to Yu Jen in the second round in Lucknow last week.

Justin Hoh battled hard to beat India's Varun Kapur 18-21, 21-16, 21-9, but Soong Joo Ven's campaign ended early following a 21-18, 21-14 loss to homester Abishek Saini.

The other Malaysian shuttlers slated to see the last 16 action on Thursday include Pei Kee-Low Yeen Yuan in the women's doubles, as well as Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See and Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin in the mixed doubles.
