KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and para shuttler Cheah Liek Hou have been shortlisted for the prestigious BWF Player of the Year Awards.

The awards, which will be held at the BWF World Tour Finals Gala dinner in Hangzhou, China next month, is to honour players for their performance during the 2022-2023 season from last November to Oct 31 this year.

BWF released the list of nominees today.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who have done well over the short period they have been paired up, are nominated for the Most Improved Player of the Year award while Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist Liek Hou is nominated for the Male Para Player of the Year award.

Despite suffering a dip in form after the Hangzhou Asian Games in September, Tang Jie-Ee Wei must still be applauded for breaking into the world top-10 in less than a year.

For the record, world No. 9 Tang Jie-Ee Wei were first paired up for the Bangladesh International Challenge in December last year. The pair would go on to win the title.

They won three more titles this year - the Iran International Challenge, Orleans Masters and Taiwan Open.

As for Liek Hou, he is currently ranked No. 1 in the world in the men's singles SU5 category and has already booked his slot in next year's Paris Paralympics.

Other notable awards to be handed out at the Gala Dinner include Male Player of the Year, Female Player of the Year, and Pair of the Year.
