KUALA LUMPUR: It's an eye for an eye as world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik smashed their way into the Malaysia Masters men's doubles quarter-finals at Axiata Stadium today (May 25).
After losing to South Korea in the Sudirman Cup semi-finals last week, the Malaysian duo were not in the mood for a similar episode, not on home soil. They duly powered past world No 10 Choi Sol Gyu-Kim Won Ho 21-19, 21-14 in the second round.
Pleased to have avenged their earlier defeat, Wooi Yik said: "We were more prepared today (May 25), because just last week we lost to Korea (Kim Won Ho) in the Sudirman Cup.
"It was 50-50 and tight in the first game. In the second game, Aaron and I had a better grip of the tie. The first three-shot play was crucial and we got it right almost all the time. That was key, and we hope to keep this momentum going in the coming match."
Aaron-Wooi Yik will play eighth seeds Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin of Indonesia tomorrow (May 26).
Another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun booked their place in the quarter-finals after downing Scotland's Alexander Dunn-Adam Hall in a three-game thriller, 19-21, 21-16, 21-13.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun will be up against third seeds and three-time former world champions, Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia next.
The evergreen Indonesian duo made short work of Taiwan's Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po Hsuan, 21-17, 21-14 in the second round.
Independents Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi made it three out of three for the Malaysian men's doubles camp. The world No 8 ranked Malaysians defeated Taiwan's Lu Ching Yao-Yang Po Han 15-21, 21-12, 21-19, and will play South Korea's Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae next.
The Koreans reached the last eight after seeing off Japan's Akira Koga-Taichi Saito 21-15, 21-17 in the second round.
