The BA of Malaysia (BAM) are only expected to make an announcement on the status of mixed doubles head coach, Paulus Firman in the next few days.

It is learnt that doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky is still in talks with his countryman, who apparently is set to part ways with the national body after serving for four years.

Paulus, 53, is currently back in Jakarta with his family but is expected to return to Kuala Lumpur later this week to see out his contract, which ends this month.

Timesport had earlier reported that Paulus could be next in line to join an exodus of head coaches leaving the national setup following the arrival of Rexy in December.

Former women's doubles head coach, Chan Chong Ming was the first to quit at the end of last year, followed by former women's singles head coach Indra Wijaya in February, and another Indonesian Flandy Limpele (men's doubles) last month.

Should Paulus — who had a short 10-month stint with BAM in 2013 — decide to not renew his contract, the national body will be left with two coaching directors, Rexy and Wong Choong Hann (singles), and eight coaches — Hendrawan, Tey Seu Bock, K. Yogendran (men's singles), Tan Bin Shen (men's doubles), Loh Wei Sheng (women's singles), Hoon Thien How, Lee Meng Yean (women's doubles), and Teo Kok Siang (mixed doubles).

Among Paulus' notable achievements since arriving in 2018, is guiding national No 1 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to the world top 10, and raising the standards of mixed doubles duo Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See, Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei, who inspired the national team to the Sudirman Cup semi-finals last year.
