INDEPENDENT players do not have to stay at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara when they join the national training camp on July 15.

The national shuttlers currently in camp are under a quarantined-style Road To Tokyo (RTT) programme at the ABM due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first phase of training ends on June 30.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh indicated that there will be flexibility in training from July 1.

"The number of Covid-19 cases is reducing, and people are getting used to the new normal.

"Flexibility will be given to the independent players when they join the national training camp to prepare for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup with our shuttlers," said Kenny.

"They will not have to stay at the ABM hostel. The same goes for the coaches."

Among the independent players expected to join the camp are Liew Daren (men's singles), Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong and Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin (doubles).

The Thomas Cup and Uber Cup will be held in Denmark on Nov 3-11.
