AS Malaysia recorded 277 Covid-19 cases yesterday, a new high mark since March 26 (235), the BA of Malaysia (BAM) have decided to suspend two tournaments — the Malaysia International Series and the Malaysia International Junior Open.

The Malaysia International Series (in Sabah) and Malaysian International Junior Open (in Putrajaya) were scheduled for June 12-16 and Aug 12-16.

BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh disclosed that it is too early to hold any events in the country amid the pandemic.

Earlier, the BAM postponed the Malaysia Open on March 31-April 5 to Nov 24-29.

"We have no choice but to suspend both the tournaments," said Kenny. "We will try to find suitable slots to host both tournaments later in the season.

"Of course, cancelling both events is on the cards.

"A revised calendar will be released next week."

Ipoh will host the Malaysia International Challenge on Nov 3-8. However, the tournament is expected to go on as scheduled.

Before the season was suspended, the BAM hosted the Malaysia Masters in January in Bukit Jalil.

The World Tour restarts with the Taipei Open on Sept 1-6.
