KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles player Shevon Lai's return to Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) to restart training under the Road to Tokyo (RTT) programme will be delayed as she is down with dengue fever.

The BA of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed this in a press release today.

BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh disclosed that Shevon, who partners Goh Soon Huat, has been hospitalised and will be sidelined for at least two weeks.

"Shevon is hospitalised and will not report to the RTT training camp on Monday.

"However, there is no rush as the World Tour tournaments will only begin in September.

"She can report once she has been given a clean bill of health by her doctor."

Soon Huat-Shevon, the World No 12, are among the Malaysian pairs battling for Olympic spots.

Their best results this year were reaching the semi-finals of the Thailand Masters and the last eight of the Malaysia Masters, both in January.

Kenny added that back-up player Cheah Yee See has been called up as Shevon's temporary replacement for the training camp.

The other Malaysian mixed doubles pairs hoping to qualify for next year's Tokyo Olympics are World No 11 Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying.
