IPOH: Defending champions Selangor finally won their first gold medal at the Perak Malaysia Games after four days of competition here on Friday.

They achieved their first title in the women’s badminton team event when they defeated Perak 3-1 at Arena Badminton.

Perak took the first point when national trainee Lee Ying Ying defeated H. Dharshana 21-4, 21-10 in the women’s singles.

However, Selangor bounced back when M. Thiinaah, K Letshanaa and Lee Zhi Qing-Ng Wan Win won their respective matches.

Selangor coach Danan Jaya said he expected a tough final against Perak.

“I reminded my players to focus and also play to instructions during their matches. It is a great win,” said the Indonesian-born coach.

Losing semi-finallists Negri Sembilan and Kedah were bronze medallists.
