KUALA LUMPUR: Property developers have been urged to focus on integrating technology and sustainability into every aspect of property development.

Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib said smart cities, powered by digital infrastructure and sustainable energy sources, will be the hallmark of the country's progress.

"We must also prioritise affordable housing solutions to ensure that all Malaysians have access to safe and comfortable living spaces," she said at the ASEAN Property Developer Awards 2023/2024 ceremony hosted by Des Prix Infinitus Media here yesterday.

Hanifah Hajar said developers are also encouraged to use more sustainable materials, including recycled concrete, reclaimed wood and recycled steel.

"The benefits of sustainable property development extend beyond environmental preservation as it can also attract global investors who are increasingly prioritising eco-friendly projects.

"Green buildings often result in lower operational costs, improved indoor air quality and enhanced comfort for occupants," she added.

Meanwhile, Des Prix Infinitus Media managing director Hagenz Choo said the awards ceremony became a melting pot of talent, innovation and expertise with participants converging from various corners of the ASEAN region.

"Developers seized the opportunity to showcase their projects, exchange insights and learn from each other's experiences, enriching the collective knowledge base and driving continuous improvement within the industry.

"We believe that these awards will be worthy homage to the exceptional skill and steadfast dedication shown by the most exceptional and motivating developers," he said.
