KUALA LUMPUR: Home ownership in Malaysia is low because of the high value of properties.

This includes the price of all sorts of houses in urban areas, said Dr. Shazmin Shareena Ab Azis, a senior lecturer in real estate at the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

He said that affordable housing must be provided in order for the B40 and M40 groups and young people to be able to acquire a home.

In an interview with Bernama, Shazmin praised the government's decision to expand the federal capital's affordable housing initiative, which is perceived as opening up additional options for home ownership, particularly for the younger generation.

Additionally, he said that in order to implement its development objectives, the government could benefit from using green technology.

"Through this green technology, we can create gardens on buildings, including developing green roofs or green walls that not only help to absorb or delay the flow of water but also restore aesthetic value, thus reducing global warming in urban areas," he said.
