GEORGE TOWN: Component parties within the unity government will meet to discuss the candidate for the Nenggiri by-election.

"Let them discuss first," Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said briefly when asked who would be contesting in the state seat.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed Aug 17 for the Nenggiri by-election.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the nomination of candidates for the state seat by-election would be held on Aug 3, while early voting is set for Aug 13.

The election was called after the Kelantan state assembly declared the seat vacant on June 19.

This was following former state assemblyman Mohd Azizi Abu Naim's cessation of his membership in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, relayed through an official notice to him on June 13.
