KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu is adhering to the party's constitution in allowing candidates to contest all positions in its October party election, except the president's post.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said those interested in contesting were required to apply to the supreme leadership council.

"The supreme leadership council is adhering to the resolutions of the Extraordinary General Meeting on Nov 25, 2023, which unanimously decided that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would remain as president in the upcoming election.

"Bersatu is adhering to its constitution regarding contests for other positions. Those intending to contest in the October election must apply to the supreme leadership council in accordance with Articles 14.14 and 14.16 of the Bersatu Constitution," he said following a supreme leadership council meeting yesterday.

He added that the party had also appointed Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Abdullah Omar Bledram as the new Putrajaya and Labuan protem division chiefs, respectively.

The meeting, he added, also discussed current issues including the state of the country's economy, the effects of a high cost of living on the people, the government's fuel subsidy rationalisation and the current political scenario.

Bersatu had also decided on the date for its annual general meeting, which would be from Nov 30 until Dec 1. Meetings for its Armada and Srikandi wings would be held on Nov 29.
