KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will focus on continuing the legacy of the late Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong who had served the constituency since 2013.

Its election director for KKB by-election Ng Sze Han said the coalition, through DAP, is committed to continue serving the KKB constituents with the full support of the state government.

He added that the list of candidates for the by-election fixed on May 11 will be submitted to DAP leadership and will then be presented to PH central leadership in the nearest time.

"PH's primary focus in KKB (by-election) is to continue the legacy of the late Lee who has served the constituency for a long time.

"Her role and approach had been widely accepted across all segments of society in the constituency regardless of background and ideology, in line with the spirit and struggle of DAP," he said in a statement, today.

Meanwhile, Ng, who is the Kinrara assemblyman also expressed his gratitude to the Selangor PH and DAP top leadership over his appointment as the election director for the KKB by-election.

"I would like to thank Selangor PH and DAP top leadership for entrusting me with the role of election director for the KKB by-election set to take place on May 11."

Lee died on March 21 after a battle with cancer. The three-term assemblywoman first won her seat in 2013 after defeating MCA's Ooi Hui Wen with a 1,702-vote majority and defended it in 2018 with a 7,134-vote majority over MCA's Wong Koon Mun.

During the state election last year, Lee retained the seat for DAP with a 4,119-vote majority ahead of Gerakan's Henry Teoh.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has fixed May 11 for the KKB by-election following Lee's passing.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said the nomination of candidates for the by-election would be held on April 27, while early voting is set for May 7.
