KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has yet to initiate discussions on its candidacy for the upcoming Kemaman by-election.

Umno secretary general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said only matter related to by-election machinery director has been discussed and finalised in the Supreme Council Meeting.

"The by-election director for Kemaman seat is Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Said.

"I repeat, by-election director," he said in a Press conference today.

When asked about the possibly of fielding familiar faces for the by-election with rumours tipping former incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek to contest, Asyraf responded in the negative.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed Dec 2 as polling day for the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election in Terengganu.

Nov 18 has been fixed as nomination day and Nov 28 for early voting.

The Terengganu Election Court annulled the victory of Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th General Election (GE15) after petitioner, voter Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil succeeded in proving that corruption had taken place with the aim of influencing voters.

Che Alias won the seat with a 65,714-vote majority, beating Barisan Nasional (BN) Ahmad Said, PKR's Hasuni Sudin and Pejuang's Rosli Ab Ghani.
