SHAH ALAM: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dismissed claims made by his own party supreme council member about seven Barisan Nasional (BN) member of Parliament contemplating to vacate their seats.

The BN chairman said that the claims were just rumors, although he reminded those who has such plans to wait until the end of the term.

"If they want to do any political move for their own sake, they must remember the mandate and the 'aku janji' (pledge) document they signed, they must respect it.

"If they insist on doing it, I suggest they wait," he said in a press conference after officiating the closing ceremony of Madani Ride in conjunction with Merdeka Day and 216th Police Day celebrations here today.

Recently, Umno Supreme Council Datuk Lokman Adam claimed that seven MPs are contemplating to vacate their respective seats.

Without naming the MPs, he said that they are four from Johor and one each from Pahang, Sabah and a northern state.

Meanwhile, Zahid also said that he has met with Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail on the candidate for the Pelangai state seat which was announced to be vacant.

The seat was previously held by Datuk Seri Johari Harun, who was amongst the 10 who died in the Beechcraft Premier 1 aircraft crash at Elmina, Shah Alam on Thursday.

"It is important for the continuity of development in Pelangai constituency.

"We will scrutinise and select the candidate once Bentong division suggested names to the party," he added.

The Pahang Election Commission (EC) has received official notification on the vacancy of the Pelangai state seat following the death of its assemblyman.

Johari, who is the Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment, and Green Technology committee chairman, was killed after the aircraft he was on crashed in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam on Aug 17.

He was traveling with seven others including two crew members in the six-seater Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) from Langkawi to Subang Airport when the ill-fated crash occurred about 2.45pm.

The crash had killed all eight people onboard and two road users. All the victims have been buried.
