SHAH ALAM: Candidates contesting in the state elections on August 12 are urged to make a police report if they receive any security threats.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said any candidate running for election who has information of a possible threat must make a police report so that action can be taken.

"This is not an issue of Sanusi (Kedah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor) or any candidate, don't issue a statement but there is no evidence.

"For all the candidates, the Inspector General of Police has already given a commitment in terms of keeping the order and security to ensure the process goes smoothly. So any person or parties that creates chaos must take responsibility," he said.

He also reminded all candidates to avoid making provocations.

"We are 'sane', we are mature, but sometimes the way we campaign is not mature. Be a mature person."

He also questioned Alor Setar Member of Parliament, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden meant when he said the MB was 'trapped',and that was the reason why he did not attend the Mega Perikatan Nasional talk in Sungai Petani.

Ayub said he would have been accorded the security protection, if he claimed to face any security threats.

This comes after Muhammad Sanusi did not attend the talk last night allegedly due to security issues.

Prior to this, the Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain had also assured the safety of the caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar and other candidates contesting in the Aug 12 state elections when addressing the security arrangements for the state elections in a special press conference.
