KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised campaign managers and agents of candidates contesting in the party election to comply with the guidelines.

He insisted that it was to avoid disqualification and annulment of the winning candidate.

"The Umno Election Committee has issued guidelines. I do not want the campaign managers and agents to cause candidates to be disqualifed as candidates because of the campaign managers.

"Campaign in a good way and according to the guidelines given by the committee chairman. They have monitors in every section and every meeting," he said.

He said this while speaking at the candidate announcement ceremony for the party election at the Seri Pacific Hotel here tonight.

Ahmad Zahid who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman hoped that the democratic process of the party can be maintained and candidates would adhere to the set code of ethics.

For the candidates who lost, he had advise them not to be hostile to each other.

"I hope that victory or lack of votes will not be the reason for enmity between the existing candidates. Campaign in the best possible way.

"I wish you the best of luck and may God bless our party and give the winning candidates a strong party to continue the struggle of the Malays, for the sake of our religion and our country," he said.

The Umno election will take place on March 18.
