KUALA LUMPUR: Perak Umno delegate has proposed for the establishment of a committee to study the mechanism for the selection of the party's president, deputy, vices, and supreme council members.

Tanjung Malim division (bahagian) acting chief Mohd Zaidi Aziz highlighted that it would help to avoid friction among the party's leadership.

"Just now, the delegate from Kelantan mentioned that when there are party polls, there will be all kinds of fights and disagreements," he said in a speech while debating the president's policy speech.

Zaidi said Umno Perak also proposed that the party polls be held only to choose the supreme council members.

"The supreme council members then will discuss among themselves to select the top leadership line-up.

"The selection can be done with the spirit of "musyawarah" (consensus) among themselves.

"This cannot be done this year but we should think about it."

Zaidi, in his speech, also called on Umno members to stop the culture of backstabbing.

"As Umno is moving forward, we must do away with the culture of attacking, pointing fingers, and putting each other down.

"As a political party, we must be strong and support each other."
