KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Wanita Umno has called on party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down as chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno president.

Its chief, Datuk Seri Zurainah Musa, said Umno needed a new structure to face challenges and make the party the people's choice in the future after the people rejected the party in the 15th General Election (GE15) yesterday.

"In GE14, the people cautioned Umno and BN but in GE15 the people rejected Umno and BN outright.

"Hence, the BN chairman and Umno president should be totally responsible towards the people's rejection," she said in a press conference, here, today.

The statement by the Federal Territories Wanita Umno further adds to the pressure from multiple Umno and BN quarters for Zahid to step down.

Yesterday, BN won only 30 out of 178 parliamentary seats it contested, in its worst electoral performance to date.

Zurainah said the Federal Territories Wanite Umno also stood by the 'No Anwar, No DAP' stance which was adopted by in the Umno General Assembly recently.

"No individual can violate the rule set during the general assembly, including the Political Bureau, Supreme Council of Umno, or the president, unless a special general assembly is held," she said.
