MELAKA: Kota Melaka may be a Democratic Action Party (DAP) stronghold but incumbent member of parliament Khoo Poay Tiong is "not taking chances" in the 15th general election.

Facing three competitors, Khoo has vowed to work extra hard to defend his seat for Pakatan Harapan (PH).

"Competition is always stiff, especially when it is a four-cornered fight. My team and I will campaign more actively in the next 14 days to ensure a victory for PH. I am also counting on my track record as a member of parliament, and taking good care of my health in order to campaign effectively," he said after being nominated at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Temu here today.

Khoo, who is Melaka DAP deputy chairman, said that he was confident that young voters would support him as they were "very smart and social media savvy".

"They know what is going on and what they want for the country," he said.

Kota Melaka has been won by DAP since 1969, and it was only captured by Barisan Nasional (BN) once in 2004.
