KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) is in touch with like-minded opposition parties in Sarawak and Sabah to form the Borneo Alliance.

It hopes that the new alliance would become a credible and important third force in federal politics.

PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said the formation of the alliance was in preparation for the 15th General Election (GE15), which is likely to be held earlier based on the current scenario in Putrajaya.

"I am confident that the Borneo Alliance will have the support of all the people of Sarawak and Sabah because it offers for the first time a joint strategy and common purpose involving our position in the federation.

"This synergistic partnership will be a leap forward for the Borneo states," he said in a statement, today.

Meanwhile, Wong said PSB has appointed Baru Bian as its election director, thus leading the party's preparations for the GE15.

He added that all members of the PSB Presidential Council will sit as members of the PSB Election Committee.

"At our first meeting today, the committee set the terms of reference including identifying the seats we will contest, preparing potential candidates, setting the criteria for the final selection of candidates, drafting a manifesto and other related matters," he said.

Earlier, PSB was reportedly in talks with Parti Warisan to form the Borneo Alliance.

At least two initial informal meetings have been held between Baru and Warisan President, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

There is also a possibility that PSB will lead the alliance in Sarawak and Warisan will lead in Sabah.
