MELAKA: Polling for the state election ended at 5.30pm today.

All 217 polling stations in 28 constituencies have been closed and the Election Commission (EC) recorded a 61 per cent voter turnout at 4pm.

The voting process which began at 8am was open to 476,037 eligible registered voters.

All ballot papers will be counted at the 1,109 voting streams before being brought to the 28 vote tallying centres statewide.

EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh is expected to announce the results earliest by 10pm.
